"Well how far back do you want to go?"

I've always loved birds, always had a fascination for them. In fact as a child, I loved to build crude traps, bait 'em with bread crumbs, and catch 'em ..... alive of course, unharmed. In my neighborhood, there in small town Ferriday, Louisiana, I'd catch Blackbirds, Mockingbirds, and my favorite of all, the Chee-Chee (House Sparrow - Passer Momesticus). Throughout my years, I've always looked out for my feathered friends, building a feeder here, placing a birdhouse there, and the prize, as you too may know, is to see your efforts of attracting them pay off.

Here in South Mississippi we experienced one the most devastating natural events ever, "Katrina". She left in her wake tons upon tons of debris and destruction, but you know, life had to go on. After suckin' it all up: the loss of my work place, and life as normal being turned upside down, I got busy building bird feeders and bird houses. My first designs were created with wine bottles, copper, and wood, which were mostly salvaged items left in the wake of the storm. I'd built, oh, maybe, a dozen of them or so. That's when my oldest son, came up to me and said "Pop, what are you going to do with all these feeders? We don't have that many birds around here. You should try sellin' some." Nervously, I sat up my creations at a local art market, and the reception they got was more than I imagined!

I've since then move my entire collection into a local art gallery: "The Artists at 220", located at the corner of Main St. and Toulme, in the heart of Old Town Bay St. Louis, MS.

Affectionately, the collection is called 'Feathers', "a whimsical twist on feeding and housing birds". It has expanded to include my shoe face series, the sun-face feeders, whimsical bird houses (You have to check out the pump house!), and there is even a clever hummingbird feeder that's in the works. Be looking for it soon.

All of my pieces are fun and interesting, and I promise you, they are like no other bird feeder or bird house, you've even seen!

So that's my lil' "how I got to doin' what I do" story. Spend some time checkin' out the web site. It's constantly being updated with new and exciting Feathers pieces, as well as cartoons and art work. Please email me with your thoughts and comments. And remember, each of my pieces is unique and one of a kind, guaranteed to add lots of fun and conversation to your garden and home.
